Manuela chose to study English in Canada because
she likes the Canadian accent. Vancouver was a natural choice
as she enjoys the mountains and the ocean. She is studying
Cambridge FCE. A recognized certificate will help her in
the job market. As for Cambridge’s teacher, Dana, Manuela
says: “She’s flexible, explains well and has
a good sense of humor.”
Manuela likes VanWest because of its facilities: student
lounge and computer lab with high speed Internet access.
The school activities are also important to her. She recently
went to Whistler, where she noted the runs to be wider than
in Switzerland. |

“I think it is very convenient for international
students to live and study here” says Sun-Young. She
is taking Business English and she recommends the course.
Her teacher is Murray and “he is always well-prepared,
taking good care of students and proud of teaching Business
English”. Sun-Young has joined various activities,
such as Cultural Days (students share food, music and culture
with their classmates), a Seattle trip and the free conversation
club. She likes VanWest College because of the friends she
has made from Switzerland, China, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, etc.
Any tips for new students? Sun-Young recommends making friends from different
countries and says: “Don’t be shy, open your mind and join the conversation
club!” |

“I wanted to learn about real Canadian
life. In Kelowna, I have had this chance...Kelowna is a small
city but it is a really nice experience for people like me.
I can meet friendly people here. I feel like Kelowna is really
my home now. My teachers and my classmates are like my second
family. My host family is really nice and I can practice
English with them all the time. Although I have only been
here 1 month, I feel like I have learned a lot of English
here because there are so many chances to speak with Canadians.
I now plan to stay here longer than my original plan." |

the kind staff. Gerardo has joined the trips to Whistler and Victoria.

every single moment, because learning English can also be fun.” |
